What This Calculator Does

This hand-matchup calculator estimates each player’s chance to win, lose or split the pot when two Texas Hold’em hands go to showdown. It is a learning tool: it shows you which hand has the mathematical edge and by how much, so you can study how different holdings, suitedness and board textures affect equity.

It does not tell you how to play. Poker decisions involve position, stack sizes and opponent tendencies, factors no single equity number can capture. Use this calculator to build intuition about preflop and postflop matchups, then combine that understanding with real-world strategy. If you are still learning the basics, start with our guide on how to play Texas Hold’em.

How It Works

Select two hole cards for Hand A and two for Hand B using the card grid below. Optionally set a board (preflop, flop, turn or river) to see how equity shifts as community cards appear.

Once both hands are complete, the calculator runs 20,000 Monte Carlo simulations, dealing random runouts from the remaining deck and scoring each showdown with a standard 7-card poker evaluator. Results are presented as win percentages for Hand A, Hand B and the chop rate, with a margin of approximately ±0.7 percentage points at 95% confidence.

For preflop matchups the numbers can also be verified by exact enumeration over all C(48,5) possible boards, the same engine that powers the calculator’s accuracy checks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate are these equity numbers?
The calculator uses Monte Carlo simulation over 20,000 random runouts, giving a margin of error around ±0.7 percentage points at standard confidence levels. For preflop-only matchups the underlying engine can enumerate all 1,712,304 possible boards exhaustively for perfect accuracy, the simulation stays within 0.3% of that exhaustive value in every tested matchup. The results are estimates for learning, not guarantees of any real outcome.
How many players does the calculator support?
It compares two hands at a time, which matches the most common poker question (“do I call this all-in?”). Multi-way pots involve additional hands and side-pot considerations that a two-hand model cannot capture. For learning purposes, study each pairing separately.
Is the calculator free?
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser with no signup, no download and no ads. There is nothing to install and no data is sent to any server.
How does equity relate to hand rankings?
Equity tells you how often a hand wins at showdown, while hand rankings tell you the strength hierarchy when hands are compared. A pair beats a high card in the rankings, but in a preflop matchup a hand like Ace-King suited can have close to 50% equity against a small pair. Review our poker hand rankings guide for the strength order, then use this calculator to see how often each hand actually wins.

This tool is provided for educational and entertainment purposes only. Equity estimates are based on mathematical simulation of a standard 52-card deck, not on any actual game. Always play responsibly.
